A few years ago completely by chance I rediscovered I guy I knew back in high school. Way back then, he wanted to work with music but had no idea where to start. I taught him the basics of how to use a sequencer and for weeks he was churning out absolute garbage. But he stuck with it, taught himself a big chunk of theory, went to a prestigious music school (where I didn't even have the guys to apply), became a producer just in time to ride the dubstep wave for a few years, and is now a college professor who will likely spend the next 30-40 years making a very comfortable living by doing what he loves.
